It will take a little digging but it will be worth your time to get with someone who has had some success and they can mentor you. The one thing I have found over time is that I believe 99.5% of people working and marketing their home based businesses on the internet are failing. I ended up doing what is called SEO (search engine optimization) to drive traffic to my web site. I found that this is the most successful way of working a home based business. There is practically no cost in doing it and the rewards can be great. SEO is getting your web site to the top pages of search engines like Google for specific keyword phrases. If you go to the browser on your computer and type in words to locate something on the internet, it is the front page that you want "your" web site to reside on. Say for example, you are looking for "used cars", you would type that in and a listing of results shows up. You would want to be able to do that yourself. Have others type in certain search words that would point to your home business page. That said, begin looking for a specific niche that interests you. Home based business opportunities are all over the place on the internet and chances are there is something that would work for you with your specific interests. Take your time as this is important. Come up with a list of companies you might be interested in being a part of. Now, come up with a list of search terms that you yourself might use to find that company on the internet. Do searches using Googles' search page and look for the business opportunity you are interested in. If you find someone on the first couple of pages for those keywords that you used, you just might have found yourself a winner. Call them up and if they are straight up with you and not giving you a bunch of hype, again you might have a winner. This is just something you can try. I just know you do not want to get involved with just anyone when it comes to your home business. You need to be with someone who is successful if you are just starting out.
